Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a rigid, closed-cell foam made from the expansion of polystyrene beads. EPS is lightweight and water resistant, with long lasting thermal insulation properties. The R-Value is sustained over the course of time unlike some comparable product choices available. EPS foam is inexpensive and made without using harmful chemicals such as hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC), chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) or formaldehyde. Therefore, EPS does not produce harmful emissions into the environment. In testing, EPS shows no sign of bacteria growth or decay.

Type 3 EPS has an R-Value of 4.35/inch. It is generally used in wall insulation, roof insulation (tapered or flat), under slab and below grade.
